![]() See additional info here: Troop 212 Blue Card Guide Merit Badges are an important part of our Boy Scout program and are a great opportunity for our Scouts to learn about different sports, crafts, sciences, trades, business, and future careers as they earn their badges. Currently there are more than 130 Merit Badges for Scouts to choose from and more are being introduced all the time by the BSA. Any registered Boy Scout can earn Merit Badges regardless of what rank they are. As soon as their application is submitted a Boy Scouts is eligible to start earning badges. To earn a Merit Badge a scout must work with a Merit Badge counselor that specializes in the topic they've chosen. Your Scoutmaster has the contact information you'll need for each counselor. The contents of our Merit Badge Book lending library has recently been entered into Troop Web Host by our Librarian. To check out the books you'll need your parent's help to log into the Troop Web Host site. Once you're in site click on the Inventory tab and then choose "Library Check-in/Check-out" from the menu. In the window that appears you need to find your name on the list and then click the check-in/check-out button. You'll then see the list of all our available Merit Badge books. To check out a book click on the check box next to the book you're interested in and then find the Save & Exit button. Click that and the information is entered in the system. The books are in the closet or you can talk to the Troop Librarian for help getting the book. Make sure you take the same book number as the one that you marked as checked out in the system. To return the book follow the same process but instead of taking a book, you put it back! As a boy progresses through the Boy Scout ranks the importance of Merit Badges increases. Working through Tenderfoot to the 1st class rank Merit Badges are not required for advancement but when a scout is ready to enter the ranks of Star, Life, or Eagle then there are certain Merit Badge requirements that must be met.
